Study Abroad In Finland

In this episode, Ms. Suchitra Surve talks about Finland as a destination for studying abroad. Finland is a Northern European nation bordering Sweden, Norway, and Russia. Its capital, Helsinki, occupies a peninsula and surrounding islands in the Baltic Sea.


We generally find people of Finland speaking Finnish & Swedish i.e. two languages spoken by the inhabitants. Among the Scandinavian countries, Finland has the coldest climate. The climate is characterized generally by long, cold winters and very short, mild, and moderately rainy summers. The Finnish education system is considered to be the topmost in education & is one of the cornerstones of the Finnish welfare society. A typical Bachelor’s degree in Finland is for a duration of three years and a Master’s degree is for a duration of two years. Application Process: Finland is divided into two terms: Autumn term which begins from August/September to December and Spring term which is from January to the end of May. If you are planning to apply for a Bachelor's degree in Finland, you may be required to take the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and especially you are planning to apply to the University of Applied Sciences (UAS). As any other country, IELTS or TOEFL will be required to prove your English proficiency, irrespective of the level or type of study you are planning to undertake.


Additionally, you will also need to submit documents like a personal statement, academic transcripts, resume and reference letters. All this makes up the application packet for you. What do you go and study there? Most popular courses that we fine are Business, Health Care, Information Technology and Education. Annual tuition fees for full-degree students will be in the range from EUR 15,000 to EUR 20,000. The cost of Living though it depends on an individual will vary from - 700 to at least 1200 EUR a month. The living cost will also be dependent on the area that you will live in. Helsinki is known to be one of the most expensive cities, so plan your budget accordingly. Like all the other countries students are interested to know what the scholarships available are.


Scholarships available are on your academic excellence. The previous academic performance, possible letters of motivation are also required. In addition to this, the grounds presented by the applicants in their grant applications are also taken into consideration. So be very careful while making those letters. After studying so much the typical question is do we get a job there? What is the placement scenario there? A recent study has actually identified Finland being the country where a work-life balance has been the best. Internships are a good gateway to employment and if you have a good grasp of Finnish language it will be helpful to you in getting jobs, in the majority of sectors.
